Claude skills for SEO audit a site, plan what to write next, fix the technical layer, and check whether ChatGPT or Perplexity would actually cite the page. The three we would install first: SEO Audit to see what is broken before anything else, Content Strategy to turn that audit into a real list of pages to write, and AI SEO to check the finished pages against what an AI answer engine would quote back to a buyer.
Six jobs, each with its own skill. A skill does the work inside one box, it does not decide whether the next box is worth doing.
A prioritized list of what is broken: crawlability, on-page, content gaps, authority.
Owner: whoever owns the site, before any new page gets written.
A real list of topics and keywords to cover, ranked by what closes the audit's gaps.
Owner: marketing, on a rolling calendar, not a one-off brainstorm.
Pages exist, linked to each other, in a hierarchy a reader and a crawler can both follow.
Owner: whoever writes, following the plan above, not a blank page.
Structured data in place, so search engines and AI crawlers read the page correctly.
Owner: a developer or whoever can edit the site's code.
Pages checked against what ChatGPT, Perplexity or an AI Overview would actually quote.
Owner: marketing, re-checked as answer engines change.
Backlinks, directory listings, press mentions: the signals a domain earns over time.
Owner: whoever handles press and partners, on a slow, steady rhythm.
What is a Claude skill (and what it is not)
A Claude skill is a folder of instructions, checklists and sometimes scripts that Claude reads before doing one job, the same way a new hire reads a playbook before touching your site. Install one and Claude follows it: which checks a technical audit runs, how schema markup should be structured, what makes a page citable to an AI answer engine. A skill is not a live crawler, not a keyword database and not a person watching your rankings. It does not run on a schedule by itself, and it will not touch your CMS or your codebase unless you separately connect a tool that lets it write.

Audit before you touch anything
SEO Audit checks the technical, on-page and content layers of a site and returns the fixes in priority order. It is the skill we would install first: every other skill on this list assumes you already know what is broken, and most sites do not. Run it before you write a single new page, so new content does not land on a site search engines struggle to read. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill seo-audit
Plan content and keywords
Content Strategy plans which topics to cover and what to write next. Fed with the audit's findings, it gives a B2B SME with one person writing on the side of their real job an ordered list to work through, the difference between publishing on a schedule and publishing whenever someone has a free afternoon. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill content-strategy
Video Content Strategist plans a video calendar and optimizes titles and thumbnails for search, mostly on YouTube. Worth it only if your buyers already watch demos or explainers before a call; skip it otherwise. Install: npx @borghei/claude-skills add video-content-strategist
Write and structure the pages
Site Architecture plans the page hierarchy, navigation and internal linking that turns a pile of blog posts into a structure a reader and a crawler can both follow. Most B2B SMEs write dozens of pages with no plan for how they link to each other, and that is the gap this skill closes. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill site-architecture
Programmatic SEO builds one page per row of a real data set, for example one page per sector you serve or per tool you integrate with, and guards against the thin, near-duplicate pages search engines ignore. Worth it once you have a data set worth turning into pages, not before. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill programmatic-seo
Competitor & Alternative Pages builds the "X vs Y" and "alternative to X" pages that a buyer searches for when they already know your category and are comparing vendors, a page type most B2B SMEs never get around to writing themselves. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill competitors
Fix the technical layer
Schema Markup adds schema.org structured data, the labels that tell a search engine a page is an article, a service, an FAQ or an organization. It can earn richer results in Google and is quick to add once the audit shows where it is missing. It helps machines read a page; it does not make a weak page worth citing. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill schema
Get cited by AI answers
AI SEO reworks a finished page so ChatGPT, Perplexity and other AI answers are more likely to cite it, not only rank it in a list of links. It made the list because a buyer who asks an AI assistant for suppliers gets a handful of names, not ten links, and a page nobody cites never makes that handful. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill ai-seo
Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) does a close version of the same job from a different publisher, with its own checklist for what ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity actually cite. If AI SEO's checklist does not match how your team already writes, this one is worth comparing before you pick. Install: npx @borghei/claude-skills add aeo
SEO and AEO Strategy pairs classic technical SEO with the answer-engine layer in one skill instead of two, a shortcut if you want a single install covering both jobs rather than running AI SEO or AEO separately. Install: npx skills add manojbajaj95/claude-gtm-plugin --skill seo-and-aeo-strategy
Build authority
Directory Submissions plans which directories are worth a listing: startup, SaaS and AI directories first, then, further down its list, local and industry directories, which matter more to most B2B SMEs outside software. It is slow, unglamorous backlink work that still moves a young domain's authority. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill directory-submissions
Public Relations & Earned Media plans journalist outreach, press pitches and podcast prep, the kind of mention that earns a backlink no directory submission ever will. It is slower than the rest of this list and pays off over quarters, not weeks. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill public-relations
Free Tool Strategy plans a free calculator or small tool used as a lead-gen and SEO asset, the kind of page other sites link to on their own because it is genuinely useful, not because you asked. Install: npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill free-tools
The order we would install them in
Start with SEO Audit. Planning content or fixing schema before you know what is actually broken just adds new pages on top of the same crawlability or structure problems.
With the audit findings in hand, run Content Strategy and, if video matters to your buyers, Video Content Strategist, to turn the gaps into a ranked list of what to write next. As pages get written, bring in Site Architecture so they link to each other on purpose, Competitor & Alternative Pages for the comparison searches your category gets, and Programmatic SEO only once you have a real data set worth turning into pages.
Close the technical gaps the audit flagged with Schema Markup, then check the finished pages against AI SEO, Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) or the combined SEO and AEO Strategy, picking one of the three rather than running all three on the same page.
Once the on-site work is in decent shape, start the slower authority work: Directory Submissions, Public Relations & Earned Media, and Free Tool Strategy if a useful free tool fits your offer. None of the three pays off in the first month, so start them early and let them run in the background.
What we left out, and why
ASO Audit (Corey Haines) audits an App Store or Google Play listing, not a website. Unless a B2B SME sells through an app store, this checks a storefront most of them do not have.
Content Research Writer (Composio) researches a topic and drafts the full piece with citations. This list stops at deciding what to write and making it findable; the drafting itself is covered in our copywriting skills piece, where this skill already sits.
Customer Research (Corey Haines) runs customer interviews and review mining for ICP insight. It feeds the plan a content calendar is built from, but the job itself is go-to-market research, not SEO, so it lives in our go-to-market piece instead.
Market Research & Analysis (manojbajaj95) produces TAM and SAM sizing and a competitive landscape report. Useful before you decide which market to target at all, but it does not touch a page, a keyword or a search result, so it did not make an SEO list.
What a skill will not do for you
A skill audits the site, plans the content, fixes the schema and checks whether a page is citable. It does not know how long any of this takes to show up, and the honest answer is months, not weeks: a new page on a young domain often needs several months to rank for a search that brings buyers, and authority builds over quarters, which is why the backlink and PR work above pays off slowest. None of these skills decide when SEO is worth starting either. For most B2B SMEs, it earns its place once outbound is already booking calls, not instead of it: SEO is too slow to fill this quarter's calendar. That is the outbound versus inbound sequencing question we walk new clients through, and why our own inbound work starts only after the joint review at month 3, never in the first three months.
A skill also will not keep the calendar running once the first ten pages are live, watch which ones actually earn a link, or decide when a slow channel like PR has stopped being worth the time spent on it. That ongoing rhythm, not any single audit or draft, is what we install for clients once outbound works, as part of the GOALS method.
FAQ
How long before Claude skills for SEO show results?
Months, not weeks. A new page often needs several months before it ranks for a search that brings buyers, and building the authority a competitive keyword needs takes longer still. Treat anything faster as luck, not a repeatable result.
Can a Claude skill publish directly to my website?
Only if you separately connect a tool that gives it write access to your CMS or codebase. Every skill on this list is built to read, plan or draft first and hand you the output, not to push a live change on its own.
Is it safe to run these on my live site?
Read the skill's SKILL.md before you run it, and test schema changes or structural edits on a staging copy first, the same caution you would use with any script that touches production. A skill published by an individual on GitHub carries different risk than a tool your CMS vendor maintains, and both deserve a first run somewhere that is not your live domain.
Are Claude skills free?
The skill itself is usually free: most on this list carry an MIT license and the rest list none. What is not free is your Claude usage running the skill, and any keyword or backlink data tool you connect alongside it.
Do they work in Claude.ai or only Claude Code?
Every skill above installs through Claude Code, using npx skills add or, for the borghei skills, npx @borghei/claude-skills add. A growing number also load inside Claude.ai and the Claude apps, but the exact install path differs by publisher, so check the command listed for that skill rather than assuming it works everywhere.
